Attention Urban Artists!
Caribbean Consulting and Avenidadelasartes.com are helping to reposition Hotel San Jorge & The Hostel @ San Jorge as an Urban Art/Design Hotel with budget accommodations for travelers who want accommodations in Santurce.
With its location at Parada 25 and easy access to Abracadabra, La Respuesta, El Local, Loiza Street and other emerging arts venues – we would like to make Hotel San Jorge a major part of the arts scene in Santurce.
Our vision is to use the hotel as a host hotel for visiting artists, performers, directors, writers, musicians, etc. by creating an ‘Artist in Residence’ program and supporting project like Los Muros Hablan, Santurce es Ley and other arts projects/events.
However, we have lots of room for artists:
30 Rooms: We would like to find 30 artists who will each take one of our rooms and paint a ‘signature wall’ in the room. Subject is up to each artist – but please remember that this is a hotel – so anything that would induce nightmares may not be the best choice and overtly sexual or political content will not be appreciated by everyone. You will also be able to paint the door to your room and sign the door.
Atrium: There is a 3-story atrium in the center of the hotel which would be great for a crew to paint as one unified concept.
2nd Floor Hostel Garden Terrace: Large area outside hostel.
Ponce de Leon Frontage: Large Signage Area above Commercial Space (Zal Si Puedes & Phone Store).
Calle San Jorge Frontage: Large Signage Area above AAA Taxi
Esq Ponce de Leon/Calle San Jorge: Corner Signage above Café San Jorge.
Stairways: Several stairways available for painting.
Hallways: Several long, narrow hallways.
The hotel will provide a stipend to each artist to cover the cost of materials (let us know how much in advance).
The hotel will feature your work and your bio on both the Hotel San Jorge and Avenida de las Artes websites.
The hotel will donate room nights an ‘arts room bank’ that can be used by local arts groups/projects/venues when they need accommodations for visiting artists/performers/musicians, etc. We plan to create an advisory group to manager distribution of the free rooms.
The hotel will let you show your room when it is not rented, just make arrangements with the front desk.
The hotel will organize a grand re-opening event with press, music and all artists – with rooms open to the public for viewing.
If you are interested in participating – call Richard at 787-455-4215 or stop by Caribbean Consulting at 456 Calle Saldaña (the house between Abracadabra and Casa Fantasmes).
