Parada 28 - Coliseum & Hato Rey Entertainment District
This is newest and most challenging area of San Juan's Arts scene.
Although not technically in Santurce - it is just one stop past the historic bridge over the Martin Peña canal in the Hato Rey business district.
This is the first of the Tren Urbano's magnet neighborhoods to be developed as an entertainment district with the Coleseo de Puerto Rico, Fine Arts Cinema at Popular Center and the new Trocadero entertainment center at the Agua Espresso ferry terminal (Old San Juan to Hato Rey).
This is a great addition to the arts scene since the coliseum hosts some of the top international concert tours and special events. The Fine Arts Cinema Café features the best of international cinema and nearby Corbiantes Theater features gay-oriented productions of major plays from around the world. When the Trocadero Complex opens with bars, restaurants and nightlife, this should be a major destination!
Unfortunately, it is not easy to get to by public transportation - but hopefully this will change as the project is completed. A taxi from any of the tourist areas will cost approximately $15-20 each way.
How to get to Stop 28:
- Condado – Get to stop 22 and change to the M3 Metrobus. Take the bus all the way to the last stop at Tren Urbano. Change to the Tren Urbano and go one station to Hato Rey. Best Bet - take a taxi!
- Isla Verde – Get to stop 22 and change to the M3 Metrobus. Take the bus all the way to the last stop at Tren Urbano. Change to the Tren Urbano and go one station to Hato Rey. Best Bet - take a taxi!
- Old San Juan – Take the M3 Metrobus all the way to the last stop at Tren Urbano. Change to the Tren Urbano and go one station to Hato Rey. In the future, the Agua Espresso should go from pier one directly to Trocadero Center. 30 minutes.
