Ellie Pruess visited Puerto Rico as a tourist many times during the late 1950’s and early 1960’s.  During her visits to San Juan, she purchased works from emerging artists  Julio Rosado del Valle, Epifanio Irizarry, Manuel Hernandez and Santos Rene – all of whom went on to become reknowned Puerto Rican artists.
